You heard it here first (or maybe you already know): New York-based star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will open a restaurant on Kaua‘i in November. He was a culinary supernova in ’90s New York, with his JoJo bistro, haute Vietnamese fusion spot Vong (where the staff instructed you how to eat), Mercer Kitchen and Jean Georges. (I was lucky enough to get to review some of them as senior editor of the late Time Out Eating+Drinking guide.) Since then he’s gone global, with restaurants in London, Paris, Martinique. A partnership with St Regis hotels has seen him open restaurants in Shanghai (Jean-Georges Shanghai) and Bora Bora (Lagoon)—which is where the manager of the new Kaua‘i Grill is from. The totally redone Princeville Resort will reopen as the St. Regis Princeville Resort in September, and Vongerichten’s Kaua‘i Grill will open in November. I’m calling Hawaiian Airlines right now.
